WHEN DREAMS BECOME A REAL-LIFE NIGHTMARE

In the quiet moments before Carl's life took a devastating turn, I often found myself trapped in a recurring nightmare. It wasn't the kind of dream that repeats verbatim, but the underlying theme was constant—a profound sense of loneliness and abandonment.

In these dreams, I wandered through a world surrounded by people, yet I remained utterly alone. A relentless yearning for my husband consumed me as I tirelessly searched for his presence. Strangely, Carl never appeared in these dreams, but the haunting ache of loneliness was a relentless companion.

These dreams persisted for years, perplexing me and raising countless questions. Why did I continually experience this inexplicable isolation? After all, Carl and I shared a blissful marriage—a union where togetherness was our very essence. Whether watching TV in the living room or reading in silence, we were inseparable. Even during dinner preparations, he would sit nearby, engrossed in the paper, as I worked in the kitchen.

The haunting puzzle of these dreams weighed heavily on my heart until that fateful day, years later, when Carl's life was forever altered by a massive stroke. Suddenly, it all became clear. I hadn't been dreaming of mere isolation; I had been foreseeing the heart-wrenching reality that awaited us. In the blink of an eye, I lost not only my husband but also the love of my life as I had known him.

Our journey through the aftermath of Carl's stroke is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the importance of support during the recovery process. From this experience with Carl, it’s become my mission to walk with other families like ours to find hope and healing amidst unexpected challenges.
